WE ARE HAPPY TO SAY THAT WE HAVE WON THE PRESTIGE AWARDS FOR THE BEST MUSEUM OF 2023 YEAR AWARDS

The one, the only, the Original Cockney Museum

The concept of The Original Cockney Museum had long been a dream of George Major since he was 20 years of age, the Pearly King of Peckham, you will be walking through that dream. ever since the day he acquired the Pearly Crown Jewels as they are known.

For those not in the know, the Crown Jewels are a collection of Pearly Kings’ and Queens’ suits and other fascinating and historically significant artefacts dating back some 179 years! George’s, in fact, is the only known collection of its type.

Welcome to the Museum

The desire to create such a museum was stimulated in George following his long yet ultimately successful search for the Cockney Crown Jewels.

Following this acquisition, George set up a temporary display in Stoneleigh, Surrey, for a period of just 2 weeks. Over the 2 weeks alone, the display attracted 6,000 visitors! This paved the way for the concept and creation of the Cockney Museum.

The museum celebrates the unique history and heritage of the cockney tradition and provides an enthralling insight into the evolution of old London cockney coaters and pearlies.

As you tour around this amazing museum, you can dance and sing along to the “Lambeth Walk” and also you will be hearing real old cockney songs which we’re sure you’ll be singing along to while you enjoy the exhibits. You’re more than welcome to buy the CD with all the old favourites on there.

George invites you along to check out the museum, even if you have to brave the old “pleasure and pain” (rain) to get there! Bring the “dustbin lids” (kids) along and ignite in them a passion and interest for this all-important piece of London’s heritage that should never be forgotten!
